About Me

I’m currently working as director of Academic Information Systems at the College of William and Mary where my responsibilities include working with the departmental liaisons and lab/ classroom team to provide direct support for teaching and learning at the College. Our group supports over 600 faculty and staff and a growing number of graduate and professional students. We are responsible for helping to design, build and maintain over 100 classrooms, computer labs and other facilities.
We’re currently working on a variety of projects focused on expanding the conversation on teaching excellent. Some of those projects focus directly on using technology more creatively and effectively, including our focused research initiatives on tablet computers in the classroom and student use of clickers, our communities of practice in survey research and collaborative writing, and our workshop series on using Blackboard more effectively, (None of us who work with Blackboard think it’s the ideal project, but with 1300 classes and 500 faculty using it each semester, it’s important that we squeeze as much value as possible from our investment.) We’re also working on a variety of other initiatives including collaborative writing, online surveys and undergraduate research.
I also have an academic appointment as Executive Professor in the School of Education. I currently teach courses in technology planning, adult education and emerging technologies in education. Some day soon, I’ll post some information about my non-professional life–much of which is available on my FriendFeed site.
When I get around to it, I’m going to add a great disclosure statement like this one.
